Electrolux Design Lab

You may not know this, but every year since 2003, Electrolux have held a competition for undergraduate and graduate industrial design students. The competition is called Design Lab and invites these students to create daring and innovative ideas for home kitchen appliances. Each year has a different theme and this year's challenge was to design a home appliance for the internet generation, taking into account ideas such as convenience, time, personalisation, entertaining, technology and sustainability.

An Austrian student won this year with his concept of "flatshare", which is a fully customisable fridge that is split up into different and entirely individual compartments and is aimed at those who share a house with friends. I would have loved that as a student- no more using my cheese by "accident" anyway!

Compact Kitchens from Electrolux

Yesterday, a man who was planning to rent out his two bedroom flat came into the shop as he needed to fit out the kitchen before the new tenants moved in. Now this flat is in the city centre, has all the mod cons and is really quite expensive to say that it only has one bedroom, so there was no way that he could get a cheap kitchen- it had to be good quality. His main problem was the size of the kitchen though. He ended up going for a whole range of appliances from Electrolux's compact range. It was a good choice in my opinion. There's no way that anybody could mistake the quality of an Electrolux appliance and if it saves you precious kitchen space along the way, all the better!

Electrolux

Electrolux appliances - or looking around now it seems to be AEG Electrolux? Anyway, I have bought many of their products in the past and wanted to write some bits and pieces about my experiences with them.

If you have your own story about them please let me know!
